How to Draw A Muscular Arm

Step 1

If anything is more complicated to draw than muscles, it has to be the human hand. Drawing hands can be terrifying for even the most seasoned artist, so we’ll take it slow by drawing one in this first step of drawing a muscular arm guide.

Two tips for this drawing are to use a pencil and follow the reference image while drawing.

The reference image shows you how to draw the proportions of the hand and fingers. The wrist and hand are drawn with rather jagged lines resulting in curled fingers.

Once you’re happy with the hand’s appearance, you’re ready for the next step!

Step 2

For this second part of the muscle arm drawing, we will extend the arm down from the hand we drew earlier.

The hand leads to some straight lines for the wrist of the arm. So this line curves a bit to the left for subtle muscle detail, and at the bottom, there’s a sharp curve for the elbow.

The line on the right will curve even more for the muscle there.

Step 3

In this third part of our how to draw a muscular arm guide, we will draw more muscles for the arm.

To do this, use two large round lines for the biceps arm muscle. These lines overlap to show that the muscles are pushing against each other.

Once you look it up in our reference image, you’re good to go!

Step 4

We will draw some muscles for the forearm for this part of the arm muscle drawing. First, use another curved line that extends from the elbow to the bottom of the bicep.

Then you can add more rounded lines inside the arm for some muscle definition, as shown in the reference image. Once these lines are drawn, the next step is to add some final details.

Using our reference image as a guide, you can add curved lines down your arm for even more muscle definition. These lines are simple but very effective in making the arm look more realistic.

So you’re ready for the final step, but before we continue, let’s add some details! You can add your touch to this design. You can draw a background that can be a backdrop or more stylistic with different shapes.

Step 6

This is the sixth and final step of the muscular arm drawing, and you can relax while adding some cool colors.

If you want the colors to be brighter and more intense, use colored pencils, markers, or acrylic paints. It would also look great with more subtle colors; you could use watercolors, colored pencils, or pastels.
